Sydney alternative rock outfit Noon Shift have been gradually making waves over the last half a decade or so thanks to their authentic, candid sound and thoughtful songwriting. With their debut album Steering Wheels On Summer’s Days on the horizon, the outfit have release the pensive new single ‘Wake Up’.

The track broaches the difficult subject of life-changing illnesses, and the magnitude of the effect that it has on loved ones and people close to the situation. There is a meticulous, slow moving pacing to the sound that eventually gives way to a cathartic closing stretch that feels richly deserved and rousing. The track can either be interpreted as quite hopeless or hopeful, but either way does an admirable job of conveying the emotions and the journey that people forced to walk this path go through.

“When I wrote this one I was thinking a lot about dementia as a condition and what it’s like for the families of struggling loved ones.” Nick Lowe of Noon Shift says. “I’d like to think there’s some element of hope in this song but it’s a nasty disease and difficult for everyone involved.”
