Annabel Allum releases powerful cover of Gossip’s ‘Standing in the Way of Control’
Out tomorrow via Killing Moon Records, Annabel Allum unleashes a stripped-back rework of the Gossip’s anthem ‘Standing in the Way of Control‘. Completely making it her own, the effortless number weaves through a fierce alternative avenue with ease.
Marrying a subtle folk arrangement, the indie track features elevating hooks and intimate vocals. Having spent two months on a UK and European tour with Beth Ditto back in 2017, you can truly hear connections from both souls within this powerful number.
On the release, Annabel told us, “I’ve been so zoned into album demos it’s been therapeutic to do a throwaway take on a song that means so much to me. After months of not seeing my best friends who happen to also be my band, it was a real moment to head to Masterlink Productions in Send and knock this out.
We played it through, hit record and this is the outcome. The Beth Ditto tour was a pinnacle point in my career. It opened my mind and world in ways I find it hard to articulate. I couldn’t not choose this as one of my covers.”
A spine-tingling release, Annabel Allum’s version of ‘Standing in the Way of Control’ explores a captivating soundscape. Bathed in ethereal elements straight from the heart, the track navigates listeners through realms of reflection.
In a time where the world feels like it’s stuck on pause, this track feels like the anthem that will help us get through uncertain times.
