British-Moroccan solo artist ELATRASI unveils sublime debut single ‘Heavy’

An effortless debut that instantly cements legendary status, ELATRASI’s first single ‘Heavy‘ is hypnotising.

Produced by London based, Palestinian Arab Imad Salhi, the track has already received two nominations for the InterContinental Music Awards 2021 (Europe Ballard and Best Production) and selected semi-finalist for the ‘Performance’ category at Nashville’s 2020 International Songwriting Competition – the biggest and most competitive songwriting contest in the world.

Enchanting and showcasing a cinematic side to pop, ‘Heavy’ is an authentic offering staright from the soul.

Multi-cultural and equally evocative, ‘Heavy’ is a poignant single that details battling invisibile disabilities.

Speaking about the important song, ELATRASI shares, “I have battled invisible disability, chronic pain and mental health for most of my 20s. It completely changed my life and the way I interacted with myself and the world, and for the longest time, I kept most of my internal health struggles hidden in fear of not being understood.

‘Heavy’ developed during a time when all the hiding began to take a mental toll. I decided it was time to share my truth and turn my pain into power, even if it confused others. It serves as a liberation anthem for those experiencing isolation and invisible battles in their everyday lives. It challenges the notion of what such battles are “supposed” to look like.

That even the most seemingly high functioning deserves support, empathy and community. I believe there is strength in vulnerability, and we all deserve to share our truth without fear of being misunderstood. The rising Arabic inspired vocal runs, violins and epic cinematic percussion emphasises the intense and cathartic release of making my emotional and physical turmoil visible.

‘Heavy’ prompts normalisation of questions such as “how are you feeling, truly?”. We often respond with what we think others wish to hear, rather than how we genuinely feel. The real answer to this question lies in the lyricism of this record, particularly the introspective internal monologues of the verses.

I wrote Heavy in hope to comfort the listener, that even though some days will feel heavier than others, it’s completely okay not to always be okay and you are still worthy of love and support.”

A track you will keep close to your heart from here on out, ‘Heavy’ is as light as a feather, and an iconic debut.
