Long term friends url (pronounced ‘Earl’) and Inadelle team up for one of the best collaborations of 2021. Bringing the summer vibes slightly earlier, ‘magic wand’ is a bedroom pop single that glistens with pure beauty.
Nudging artists such as Tame Impala, Clairo and Still Woozy to name a few, ‘magic wand’ flicks its wrist and grants wishes to all it’s listeners. Detailing the emotional ups and downs of love, the single illustrates the emotive story from opposite perspectives.
Telling us about the release, url mentions, “magic wand” was our first collaboration after not having seen each other for almost a decade. We talked about our current relational statuses and found we were on opposite sides of our situations.
I started laying down the instrumentation mid-conversation – after Inadelle put down the hook, the song was pretty much finished by the end of the night. The lyrics touch on both sides of intimacy – scared of hurting or being hurt. Whoever holds the wand has the “magic.”
Adding to url’s comments, Inadelle also states, “beginning as an innocent song of new infatuation and its inherent unknowns, the lyrics took on a deeper meaning with time. As for the song’s peculiar title, it was initially a playfully convenient placeholder. I had just carved my first wand (that I was very proud of), and url kept placing it in my hand while I was singing – my takes were just ‘magically’ better with the wand”
