The singer took the trip shortly after the release of Melodrama
Lorde is a releasing a new book entitled Going South, featuring photos and writing from her time on the continent of Antarctica.
The 100+ page book will explore her fascination with the continent, which she has always been interested in but “started to interest me again in recent years as my environmental awareness went up and up, and questions about how to change my personal and professional footprints on this earth occupied much of my time.”
Calling the trip a “great white palette cleanser, a sort of celestial foyer I had to move through in order to start making the next thing”, the trip was taken before she started work on her Melodrama follow up, adding “In the plane coming down to land, I had this very intense bolt-of-lightning thought, which in all its eloquence was literally ‘DON’T MAKE SHIT RECORDS’”.
You can pre-order the book here. All proceeds will go towards a scholarship programme created by Antarctica New Zealand.
