Phoebe Bridgers Announces New Album Punisher with 'Kyoto'

Her second solo album is out June 19th

The wonderful Phoebe Bridgers has announced her new solo record Punisher.

Following her 2017 debut Stranger in the Alps, the boygenius EP with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker and Better Oblivion Community Center album with Conor Oberst (ALL ESSENTIAL LISTENING), Punisher will feature Oberst, her boygenius bandmates, Jenny Lee Lindberg, Christian Lee Hutson, Blake Mills, Nick Zinner, Jim Keltner, Nathaniel Walcott and her usual band of Marshall Vore, Harrison Whitford, Emily Retsas and Nick White.

New single ‘Kyoto’ was released with the announcement. Its video was set to be shot in Japan, but after that was cancelled “for obvious reasons” the video was completed with green screen in Los Angeles.

“This song is about impostor syndrome. About being in Japan for the first time, somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, and playing my music to people who want to hear it, feeling like I’m living someone else’s life. I dissociate when bad things happen to me, but also when good things happen. It can feel like I’m performing what I think I’m supposed to be like. I wrote this one as a ballad first, but at that point I was so sick of recording slow songs, it turned into this.”
