Gold Spectacles are back with lo-fi number ‘Lothario’, their first release in a year
Marking their return with lo-fi pop infused number ‘Lothario‘, Gold Spectacles‘ new release is their first track in a year.
Spending the past year in the studio hibernating and creating new tracks, the new release is bathed in bouncy percussion, glistening guitar riffs and compelling vocals.
Telling the tale of someone who isn’t entirely trustworthy, ‘Lothario’ is a playful number that feels like a mischievous child waiting to be a handful.
Gold Spectacles mentioned, “Whereas lots of artists would say “I only write from personal experience”, we often like to create fictional characters in our songs and draw a lot of the ideas from books, movies and art. We like to write a certain degree of juxtaposition into our music.
‘Lothario’ is an upbeat track on the surface but if you dig deeper, you discover it’s riddled with dark undertones and flawed characters. This reflects the narrator’s blind love for Lothario despite his obvious insincerity.
We wrote ‘Lothario’ in Norwegian countryside just before lockdown and completed the final version at our own studio, Gold Spectacles HQ, a few months later. The isolation of 2020 allowed us to reflect on the core elements of the track and strip away any distractions.”
