It may be time to jump on the Hemes train before it takes off without you.
Packing enough emotional weight and fun dance-able sensibilities to make you laugh and cry simultaneously, ‘Breathe’ is a stellar sophomore release from emerging indie pop talent Hemes. The artist, raised in the UK by Arabic parents, has said that she aims incorporate both the Middle Eastern and Western influences that she has grown up around and incorporate them into her sound. As a writer who is horrifically under-qualified to even have a stab at how Middle Eastern something sounds and why, all that can really be said is that the artist has already crafted a sound that feels thoroughly unique and intrinsically her own.
Hemes looks to have already found a formula for creating vulnerable and memorable sounds that both resonate and allure, and bigger things could be yet to come for the fledgling artist.
Speaking about the track Hemes says, “I wanted Breathe to capture the feeling of needing that one person in your life who can relieve your anxieties, for me it’s my mum.
I finished the song during the pandemic because it was the longest time that I had ever been away from her, through tough times I really wished that I could just drive to see her, and that’s how Breathe was born” Hemes remembers about writing it “I wanted the track to feel relatable, so that people can think of whoever makes them feel better, whether it’s a family member, a lover or a friend”
