On her latest release, London-based singer-songwriter OLI really encapsulates the cathartic and often needed emotional release that you get from having a good ‘Cry’.
The track feels measured and composed from the outset, as the artist plays off the conventions of her sound that she has established thoughtful and memorable, but with an air of grace and unflappable calm surrounding it, and she showcases a more human and vulnerable facet to her sound and herself as an artist. The track invokes strong feelings of catharsis and really highlights the relieving and rewarding feeling that allowing yourself to let go and really embrace your emotions can provide. This more personable and vulnerable side to the artist is welcome on the track and just provides more reasons why to get on board with the artist’s affable and emotional sound.
“I specifically wanted ‘Cry’ to focus on that numb feeling, when you’re unable to even process your emotions and let them go.” OLI explains of her latest release, “The constant back and forth of knowing something isn’t right inside but wanting to keep going and not seem weak. I’ve always felt crying in general is underappreciated.”
