We had a chat with the exciting artist to find out a bit more about her and her distinctive style.
Who TF is Laura Lang?
I’m Laura and I’m a songwriter from Memphis! I released my first EP at the beginning of 2022 and I’m working towards releasing a new EP, Bad Luck.
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been writing my own songs since I was 11 and 12 years old, so about 8 years.
Why do you make music?
Making music is really therapeutic and fun at the same time. It’s the perfect way for me to understand myself and the world around me.
What are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences are rooted in when I started making music and the artists that I was obsessed with. Lana Del Rey is an artist that I’ve always loved because she’s ever changing but always makes every genre she tries her own. Another artist I admire in that same way is Tyler, the Creator. My music doesn’t necessarily emulate his directly but, but he is the epitome of a visionary and his music is a staple in my life.
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
My best and favorite moments are in the studio. It’s a really satisfying process and the feeling when a song I’ve been singing acoustically for months comes to life is unmatched.
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
My sound varies from project to project, but at the core my music is lyric driven and moody. The two singles that came out this summer, Black Sedan and Bad Luck, definitely lie in the alternative rock category.
We love your new single ‘Bad Luck’, what more can you tell us about it?
The song, Bad Luck, was just my stream of consciousness while trying figuring out my relationship to people/things in my life. Most of my songs are conversations with myself. Writing Bad Luck was a sad but necessary conversation for me.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
I’ve actually finished recording my new 7 song EP, and am planning to release it in mid November!
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
My biggest fans are the people closest to me. I am so happy that my friends and family love my music as much as I do.
