The new single is the final part of their recent trilogy of tracks.
Boasting a fun and modern take on grunge-punk, Attendant have been rising in acclaim and building a fanbase since their 2020 emergence, continuing to showcase a penchant for crafting infectiously catchy sounds that are full of personality and guile.
The latest release from the outfit, led by songwriter Andy Walker, is new single ‘Failing Grace’, the final in a trilogy of releases written during an important transitional phase for the band. ‘Failing Grace’ is as melancholy and thoughtful as anything the band have released to date, tackling themes like sexism and societies obsession with policing women’s choices and trying to control them. Attendant have a great sound here that takes the foundations of genres like grunge gives it a modern edge in a way that doesn’t feel like the plethora of tired re-hashes of Nirvana clones that emerge so often.
“Each track has its own character, representing a different aspect of our sound,” Andy says of the track. “If Blockade is the heavy one, and A.I.T.A. is the eccentric one, then Failing Grace is the one with emotional depth.”
“Grace has been led to believe she’s the one failing, when in fact the world is failing her,” explains Andy. “The lyrics represent the patronising platitudes and gaslighting she is subjected to as she moves through the different stages of her life.”
