The new release is a testament to the range and depth of the artist, crafting out this narrative that begins in dark and brooding fashion before exploding into a wave of euphoria and uplifting optimism. There is a real sense of juxtaposition that permeates the track throughout, the contrast of light and dark, bleak and hopeful, calm and chaos, and this makes for a listening experience that feels exciting and unpredictable throughout. The track’s apex comes within its huge, cathartic cries of “freedom, you will know my name”, and if this track is anything to go by, a lot more people will know the artist’s name before too long.
“The Comeback was written as I emerged from a particularly hard time in my life; it’s a cry for freedom and an anthem for regaining control of your own destiny.” Drew says of the track. “I wanted the song to sound powerful and to hit hard on one hand; whilst wrapping the other arm around you,in a bid to encapsulate both the defiance and hope in the music…I was living opposite Joe Meek’s old Telstar studio on Holloway Road, London; and one night I felt inspired to run a DX7 through an old bass amp in the corner. When I heard the pulsating beat emerge I knew that this was the strident sound I’d been looking for.”
