Her inspired cover has a real sense of vulnerability and charm.
As big fans of Plastic Mermaids here at CLOUT, we were intrigued to hear that fellow Isle of Wight artist Nina Ross was releasing a cover of their track ‘Milk’ for her debut single, and hearing her vulnerable and poignant take on the track provides a really exciting glimpse into her distinctive, downtempo electronic sound.
The cover has this really thoughtful and immersive feel to it, with the narrative that is built around witnessing someone you love flounder in the face of hidden hurts and the difficult circumstances and emotions surrounding that brought to life by the affecting nature of Nina’s delivery and poise. Similarly to the original track, both versions of ‘Milk’ are moving, captivating works of art that feel as beguiling as they do melancholy and sombre. Nina does a great job of establishing her sound on the track, and we look forward to hearing what she does next following this release.
Nina says ‘“the band released an acoustic version of the song in lockdown and as soon as I heard it I was transfixed by its emotional strength and vulnerability. I knew I wanted to sing it. I connected with the experience of hiding emotions away and the impact of that on others. It gives me huge pleasure to share their amazing music too, I’m a massive fan”
