The track follows the release of the artist’s lauded 2022 EP Liberate Me.
On the explosive and cathartic new single ‘Harder Drugs’, London alt-pop-rock outfit Cures and Curses, the project of artist and producer Aaron Akpojaro, continue to showcase the ambition and emphatic sense of heart that sits at the core of a sound that feels equal parts melodic and powerful.
The track has an insatiably fun and upbeat nature, but there is a darkness that sits within thanks to the poignant and thoughtful nature of its narrative. ‘Harder Drugs’ challenges society as a whole to change and do better, looking to liberate young people and provide them with some kind of escape, something to drive them and steer them away from the mind-numbing monotony of modern life. This message is amplified by the sheer hugeness of the track, with anthemic, stadium-sized choruses met with crushing, modern rock riffs and seismic hooks, making for a sound that feels as unmissable sonically as it does lyrically. Cures and Curses have been establishing themselves over the last few years and developing what is coming to be a killer, instantly memorable and exciting sound, and ‘Harder Drugs’ might just be their most compelling and expansive release to date.
“A lot of young people like me feel the same way,” says Aaron. “Like everything we have is being taken away by someone else, and everything we want is being pulled further out of reach. This song sort of narrates that feeling, and speaks of a generation of people who are facing a reality and a future that feel increasingly bleak.”
