The track is from the rousing artist’s upcoming new album After The Masquerade
Her unique brand of country-tinged new wave is something that has given Shaela Miller and her sound a whole new lease of life as of late, making for some distinctive and engrossing releases that continue to affirm her status as a wildly exciting and memorable artist with tonnes of appeal and charm.
On the single ‘Mourning Tonight’, the artist showcases just how perfectly her unique marriage of styles goes together, with stabbing synths and engrossing basslines accompanying a thoughtful narrative about grief and the complexity and difficulty of the emotions that it can conjure. The artist’s expansive appeal and the cute sonic quirks that adorn her sound make for a litany of compelling moments, and the juxtaposition between the upbeat style and the lyrics gives it a whole other layer of depth and intrigue.
“I wrote Mourning Tonight while I was deep in the throes of grief after losing a dear friend of mine.” Shaela says of the track. “It’s about the volatile emotions we can feel as we navigate through complex feelings of grief and sorrow whilst juggling day-to-day tasks. When I first began writing the song, it was very slow in tempo. When I came back to it later that evening I decided it needed to be an upbeat dance song. A great example of the unpredictable moods we experience during suffering a loss.”
