We had found out a bit more about exiting rising alternative band ‘Kick Pistol’ following the release of their creative new single ‘Downfall’
With the release of their fifth single ‘Downfall’, rising UK based alternative rock outfit Kick Pistol continue to showcase an immersive and expansive style that feels as distinctive as it does impactful, melding thoughtful narratives with urgent, expressive soundscapes that do a great job of highlight just what makes them feel so exciting and unique.
The new single sees the outfit cynically and gleefully celebrating the failures of someone who has hurt you in the past. There is a really engrossing darkness to the sound and style which echoes this theme perfectly and creates an atmosphere and aura that feels intoxicating at times. We love the new single, and given this landmark fifth release from the band we figured we’d have a chat with them and find out some more about Kick Pistol and their story.
Who TF are Kick Pistol?
We are a four piece alternative rock band with members hailing from around the globe! Though as of now we are all based in London/Herts. We strive to perform music that makes people want to stomp their feet, and self-reflect simultaneously.
How long have you been making music?
We’ve been making music since 2015 though we started releasing our music publicly in 2018.
Why do you make music?
We do it because we love it! There is something really special about coming up with an idea for a song and then seeing how it develops over time right up until we release it.
What are your biggest influences?
As a band, we’re really drawn to the rich, emotional depths explored by bands like Muse and The Cure. Their influence is evident in our music, where we try to blend the introspective, often moody vibes of gothic rock with the more experimental elements of alternative rock.
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
It’s hard to say, as we’ve had so many great times. A stand out would be the performance of our recent single ‘Already Gone’ at the forum in Hertfordshire. It was our first live performance of the song and so much time and preparation went into it. In the end the song was really well received!
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
Our sound is dark, energetic, and bass heavy! We love to experiment with gothic themes, portrayed through a lens of synthesizers and arpeggiating riffs. And honestly, we just love throwing different ideas at a track seeing what works and what doesn’t.
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
Wow, I think opening for Muse would be huge! As I’m sure you can hear from ‘Downfall’ that we are hugely inspired by them. Although, our songs tend to showcase themes more personal than that of Muse’s later work. Regardless, it’s a big dream, but certainly one worth reaching for!
We love your new single ‘Downfall’, what more can you tell us about it?
The song is about the complicated feelings you get when someone hurts you but seems to be doing fine themselves. It talks about feeling upset and wanting to get back at them. The song uses the idea of celebrating their Downfall as a way to deal with the hurt and move on.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
We are focusing on finishing an EP which will include some of the songs previously released, as well as some new ones!
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
Probably Rob’s pet Cat ‘Whiskey’, she’s really been getting into alternative rock recently!
