The track is from the creative rising artist’s upcoming debut EP Sun
On her atmospheric third single ‘Horizon’, ethereal and expansive artist ZOE from Earth continues to shine a light on her distinctive sound, one packed full of unique sonic quirks, engrossing soundscapes, and an emotional core that feels enchanting throughout.
The track is inspired somewhat by the book and film The Great Gatsby, and for the first time was produced by the artist herself in order to give it entirely her own stamp and feel. The thoughtful and resonating lyrics give the track a really human touch despite its spacey and other-worldly sound, and this makes for a really rousing listening experience that feels as personal and real as it does extraordinary. This clash of styles never feels jarring or chaotic, and instead work together to create a sound that feels peaceful and composed, a testament to the deftness and poise of ZOE from Earth and the grip she has on her sound.
“I wanted to read the book before watching the film that people were talking about at the time” ZOE from Earth reflects, “and it was one of those stories that stays with you. Gatsby is always looking out at this light, and it dawned on me that I’d been doing this, in a way. It felt like most people were, as if we’d all been led into this somehow. I used a similar metaphor in Horizon, but it’s a conversation about being honest about whether or not you’re ‘missing the moment.’ In that way, it plays on the concept of time too. I made some production decisions in order to make it sound like it’s almost ‘ahead of time,’ so it almost sounds as if key moments are happening sooner than the ear might expect.”
