The track sees the band step into heartfelt and ambitious territory
Capable of eliciting a range of emotions and feelings through their expansive and multi-faceted indie rock sound, indie rock trio The Rills are a band who are as capable of crafting arena-ready bangers as they are tearjerking moments of emotional resonance and charm, and latest single ‘Your Dad’s Car’ somehow feels like a track that could do both.
The moving track is an ode to the old car that the band used to tour in and the memories and stories that are attached to it, now faded and decayed as time has worn them down. The track serves as a dark and captivating adventure through the past, exploring bittersweet feelings and memories in a way that feels both haunting and liberating, making for one of their most heartfelt and memorable releases to date. The Rills are a band who continue to defy expectations and push the confines and boundaries of their sound, and their ambitious and hungry nature feels like the thing that truly sets them apart from the crowd.
“I used to drive an old VW when we first started touring. I bought it off an ex’s dad & for a while it was our tour van,” Mitch explains of the vulnerable, arena-ready lullaby. “I feel like this song is driving that car up to a lake, taking the handbrake off & watching it fill with water, submerge, and take all the memories of that time with it. The song is really vulnerable & dark, it’s quite twisted in a way. You can hear all the cracks in my voice, bits of it fall in & out of time. It’s like seeing an old house from some distant memory but it’s all decayed and derelict now. I was trying to exorcise some demons on that one,” the frontman admits.
