With the release of her fierce and dynamic new EP Sweet n Salty, rising Berlin based artist WRY flexes the most empowering and exciting facets of her sound, melding expansive, often atmospheric instrumentals with unapologetically soulful and sultry vocals to create this expansive and intoxicating playground that highlights the most immersive and captivating facets of her sound.

Across the five tracks, the artist explores themes like self-discovery, growth, and emotional highs and lows, staying authentic and true to herself both through her sound and her lyrics as she wears her vulnerability on her sleeve, making for a release that resonates with listeners on a profound and relatable level. We love this collection of tracks, and had a chat with WRY to find a little bit more about the exciting artist and how the release came together.

How long have you been making music?

I’ve been singing since I was 10 years old but I’ve started composing my original music and releasing first in 2021.

Why do you make music?

I make music as part of my healing process. I write to move on and reflect. My stories are either based off my own experiences or situations I’ve observed other people to have. Singing however is a way to nourish my soul. It feels good and relaxing.

What are your biggest influences?

Amy Winehouse is definitely one of the first idols I’ve been looking up to vocally. Same about Charlotte Cardin. I just love her music, sound and writing style so much!

What would you say has been your best moment so far?

I think my best moment happened about two weeks ago when I played my first little showcase in Los Angeles, followed by another gig at an art gallery also in Los Angeles. It was literally a dream come true for me, a girl coming from a small town in Poland, I would have never thought this would actually happen to me. It was a small showcase but a huge personal achievement for me.

How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?

It’s sexy, fierce, unapologetic but also sweet and very soulful (especially when heard live).

What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?

To me this moment consists of multiple levels. The first one would be if I were to live in LA, surrounded by like minded talented musicians I’d get to work with in a sustainable music environment, meaning I’d like to finally monetize my art.

We love your new EP ‘Sweet N Salty’, what more can you tell us about it?

It’s a very personal project. When I started writing the first song I didn’t even know it was gonna end up being a part of the EP. I didn’t have a specific topic. And the song was based off other people’s experiences that I later started to unfortunately also experience in my own life. Which is why I like to call it a manifest song, because it was the start to all the bullshit I had to deal with in regard to love life and dating. So that’s when the other songs started to unveil naturally and came together to one project.

What else do you have planned for the near future?

I’ve started working on my mini album. I’ve already got some songs produced and continue writing new ones. But also trynna enjoy LA and network as much as I can meanwhile I’m here so the writing process is put on pause for a moment.

And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?

Right now I think it’s my mom. Haha. Definitely the biggest! And I don’t think this would ever change even with millions others on board. That woman just supports me in all I’m doing and never doubts my choices. I’ve been truly blessed. However I did get some amazing fans via TikTok who are really showing their support throughout my journey, for which I’m very greatful. I see it every day.
