Co-written/produced by the artist herself and queer indie alt-pop icon Mothé, latest Kylie Rothfield single ‘Old Man’ explores the unique dynamic of dating someone older, and the differing ways that both parties idealise and treat the situations and the issues that it can cause along the way.
There is a really vibrant and empowering feel to the soundscape throughout the track, complimenting the brutal honesty of lines like “I can’t make you younger old man” with a hard-edged and explosive cutting edge. This edgy pop rock aesthetic and the committed and forthright nature of Kylie’s vocal performance really drives home this empowering and fierce feel that the track embodies, and makes for a powerful cautionary tale that feels as merciless and scathing as it is effortlessly fun and cathartic.
