Hey! We love your new single ‘GOLDSTAR’, what more can you tell us about it?

Hi! Thank you so much for listening to it. ‘GOLDSTAR’ is a song I wrote almost three years ago in response to finding out a friend I had basically had an unspoken grudge against me. I wrote the song with Jenna Shorey, who I met at grammy camp when I was about 15 or 16. She’s an amazing writer and when I brought her into my session with Dee Lilly (who produced the record), the chemistry was super natural. I’m excited that it’s out.

What was the process like putting it together?

We started it sometime in November of 2022 and finished in the spring of 2023. We probably had 3-4 sessions for it in total. I’m a fan of letting music sit after first making it so I can listen to it for a few months and really get a feel for where the song will go. I listen to unfinished demos for a few hours for 1-2 times a week. We also brought in the guitar player from the band I play with live, Cole Brightbill, to play the final bass and guitar parts to a) give the mastered versions a similar taste of what is being played live and b) to make sure the live version is perfected when we play it.

What were your biggest influences when creating it?

We referenced “Seaside Rendevous” by Queen and “The Adults are Talking” by the Strokes. I’m a huge fan of Lorde, Imogen Heap, Billie Eilish, Sza, and St. Vincent; I think that you can hear their influences on me in there.

What can you tell us about your upcoming debut album SOMEBODY CALL THE FIREMEN?

The record has been something I’ve been working on since 2022. Before I even finished the third song, I knew what the title was going to be. The title is reference to my song, “Apollo” which references my hometown via the lyric “I light fires in the 630”, which was my county’s area code. The entire record to me is about expressing my grief with my childhood and the things that I went through. I wanted to dissect why I was the way I was and figure out how to make a change with how I was feeling. The only way I’ve ever been able to do that was to write about it until it made sense to me.

What else do you have planned for the near future?

The idea of going on tour again is super enticing to me. I don’t know when or how but I plan on playing this year. I’m so excited.
