With the release of her brand new EP the world she created / inside of her pocket*, Coupdekat continues to cement her status as one of the most exciting rising artists in the UK music scene today, armed with a distinctive and creative sound that continues to push boundaries.
A highlight from the collection of tracks comes in the form of ‘soda pop!’, a track that sees the artist reflecting on her anxiety and mental health, inspired by the anime ‘Words Bubble Up with Soda Pop’ which follows two teens who have trouble communicating. The vivid and colourful nature of the artist’s sound really brings all of these feelings and this intensity of emotion to life in memorable fashion. The theme of struggling with overthinking and your internal monologue is one that a lot of listeners will resonate with and relate to, and Coupdekat does a great job of melding this vibrant and hyperactive sound with more grounded and raw lyrical themes to create a thoughtful contrast.
Coupdekat says of the track, “soda pop! is a conversation with my anxiety. I have periods of intense overthinking and I battle regularly with my inner monologue. soda pop! personifies these feelings. I was super inspired by the anime ‘Words Bubble Up with Soda Pop’ which follows two teens who have trouble communicating. Instrumentally, Luca Dixon and I took inspiration from The Radio Dept, The Sundays and Kevin Abstract.”
