The atmospheric and unique nature of the track lingers with you for long after your listen to it
On their atmospheric and intoxicating new single ‘First Echo’, alternative pop duo Darkroom Data explore loss and longing in truly poignant and memorable fashion, utilising a minimalist aesthetic with voice, harmonium, bass, and synthesizer to craft a feel and aura that that feels entirely peerless in modern music.
The track was conceived in Dunmore East, Ireland and finished in the mountains of Lapinha de Serra in the southeast of Brazil, and this change of scenery feels like it really brought out something otherworldly and distant within the sound, almost harrowing in the slow-paced and intense way that it moves and the way that the different facets of the sound come together. The duo describe the sound as “the essence of a wish which, held for a long time although never coming to pass, begins to feel like a memory”, and the wholly unique and captivating nature of the sound feels like it reaches onto something as profound as that description sounds.
