Who TF is Ren Genevieve?

I’m an artist who loves to tell stories through music. I love to sing. I love to write. I’m an avid music listener. As someone who loves storytelling, when I’m not making music or listening to music, I love to read and discover new films and television series.

How long have you been making music?

I wrote my first song when I was 10 about leaving elementary school, and have been writing ever since then! I started sharing my music with friends and family about seven years ago, which led me to release my first single three years ago.

Why do you make music?

I love storytelling. I have always loved to sing and loved music. Music creates a really unique opportunity to connect with an artist through storytelling, which is something I’ve always appreciated as both an artist and a music fan. I love that this unique form of storytelling makes you feel less alone in your experiences of the world and can connect you with so many people from all over the world.

What are your biggest influences?

My biggest influences are Joni Mitchell, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande. I have learned so much from these artists about centering your unique artistry and storytelling. They all inspire me to continue to hone my craft, to learn as much as I can about music and the music industry, and to be committed to being the best artist that I can be.

What would you say has been your best moment so far?

My best moment so far has been connecting with people who have resonated with my music. I’ve had some really lovely interactions with people on social media who have resonated with my music, and it has been incredibly rewarding to see people connecting with my music the way I connect with the music of my favourite artists.

How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?

My sound is layered, intimate, and expressive. As a writer, I am inspired by my life and personal experiences, and write about the things happening to me and around me. My lyrical style is narrative, introspective, and playful. I really enjoy playing with vocals, and crafting really subtle layered vocal and instrumental moments in my songs.

What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?

My dream “I’ve made it” moment would be performing at the Grammy’s as a nominee and winner. I’ve watched the Grammy’s my whole life, and dreamed of being in that room with all of those artists who have inspired me and been the soundtrack of my life.

We love your new EP tongue tied, what more can you tell us about it?

This EP is a collection of songs that I wrote about times that I was tongue tied or on the receiving end of someone else being tongue tied. I had so much fun working on this project and I learned so much from this experience. I’m so excited for it to be out in the world.

What else do you have planned for the near future?

Always music. I am always writing. I wrote so many songs that are not included on the EP that I absolutely love.

And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?

Always my mom.
