The track is the artist’s most vulnerable and intimate single to date
With the release of her powerful and engrossing new single ‘If They Knew What you Did’, rising Irish artist Izzie Derry delves into some of her most brave and intimate territory to date, exploring the devastating and lasting effect that assault can cause for the victims, and the fear and shame that comes with revealing the truth to loved ones.
The track has a haunting tone to it that eventually gives way to a really empowering and rousing feeling as the instrumentation builds and rallies behind the artist and her impactful and driven vocal performance. There is a really affecting and heart-wrenching tone to the sound due to the themes and emotions explored, but there is a sense of perseverance and liberation that comes with Izzie releasing the track and the strength that it signifies, and hopefully it does the same for any listeners who have had to go through similar experiences.
“This is the easiest song I’ve ever written and the hardest I’ve ever released,” says Izzie, “I’m so sorry to any women who relate to it, but I hope it helps you know that it’s not your shame to carry – it’s theirs.”
