The track comes alongside the release of the artist’s captivating EP The Sunrise Cried
Metanoia is a Greek word that in itself is something of a contradiction, meaning both transformation and the risk of repeating old mistakes, and latest Salty Licorice single ‘Metanoia (p.179)’ is the latest chapter in her new EP The Sunrise Cried, a collection of tracks loosely inspired by the story of Mata Hari, the dancer, courtesan, and alleged spy.
The new single utilises the artist’s soft and captivating sound to explore Mata’s promise to herself to not fall in love, lest it make her vulnerable and susceptible to the whims of others. In falling in love, she is betrayed and punished for a crime she didn’t commit, thus circling back to this theme of contradiction, exploring the prices we pay for our vulnerability and the irony of the situation. As always with the artist’s sound, the thoughtful narrative is paired with an effortlessly captivating soundscape, and one that is as easy to lose yourself within as the weaving story being told, further cementing her status as a fiercely exciting and ambitious rising artist.
