The Scottish emo band delve into darker and more intense territory on their impactful new single
Quickly growing into one of my favourite emerging bands, Aberdeen emo outfit Palejoy are a band who have this intensely cathartic and affecting feel to their sound that leaves a real mark on you as a listener, whether exploring themes that are happy, sad, angry or anywhere in between.
Their brand new single ‘What a Sad Little Life, Jane’ is another that uses a humorous title as a mark for the darkness that lies beneath, with the track delving into the depths of themes like confusion and numbness in the wake of the loss of bassist Jamie Reid’s mother to cancer, with the artist taking on vocal duties on the track and really using the opportunity to exorcise some demons. This makes for a starkly memorable and impactful listening experience, and whether you can resonate with the lyrics and subject or not, something that will strike a chord with you and hit hard. The dynamics of their sound shift as well with the themes, opting for something that feels more brooding and steeped in darkness and depth, making for an intense and powerful track that continues to highlight the versatility and scope of the band’s sound and appeal.
