The track follows on from the release of the artist’s acclaimed EP Darling I Saw The Way You Looked At Me Tonight
A CLOUT favourite who’s expansive pop sound has seen her dive headfirst into a variety of moods and styles, anchored by her distinctive personality and charismatic allure, Girl Next Door is a modern alternative pop artist who has a tight grip on her sound and does a great job of showcase her ambitious and creative appeal.
The artist’s latest single ‘Tongue Tied’ is one that is steeped in nuance and intricacy, delving into the weeds of a painful breakup and everything that comes with it but masking it with a peppy and upbeat soundscape and vocal delivery that almost conceals the weight of the words themselves. This makes for captivating listening and a relatable accompaniment for anybody trying to smile and grit their teeth through the anguish that comes with such situations, making for a resonating listening experience that packs a hefty punch in spite of its playful exterior.
Speaking about the single, Sarah explains: “This song is actually really sad but I think that’s why we went for a playful vibe for it. It’s the song version of when you go through the most horrific breakup and you’re so sad that it’s kind of funny. Like you’re ugly crying in your friends arms and you both start laughing at how crazy you’re being. For the music video I really wanted to tap back into the kid version of me who was obsessed with being online, scrolling on Tumblr and Myspace. I used Myspace glitter text generators for the titles and the styling was inspired by the 00’s Tumblr girl aesthetic. I love Tumblr”.
