Who TF are Stereo Silence?

We had a chat with rising UK indie outfit Stereo Silence as they look to establish themselves as one of the regions most exciting young bands

The UK is celebrated as a breeding ground for hungry and creative young indie rock bands, with the best possessing a distinctive flavour and appeal that helps them stand out and leave a memorable impression upon listeners, and Surrey’s Stereo Silence are a band that look like they have all of the tools to break through the glass ceiling and really make a name for themselves in the near future.

The band’s latest single ‘Voices’ is just the latest in a string of releases that underscore their potential, packed full of catchy melodies, hard-hitting instrumentation, and a subtle swagger that hints at a star quality and charisma that feels exciting. We can’t wait to hear how the band continue to grow and develop their sound, and felt compelled to have a chat with them to find out a bit more about their distinctive style and the journey that they have been on so far.

Who TF are Stereo Silence?

We’re the latest no-mucking-around British rock ’n’ roll band to come from Surrey. And the most important band to come out of Surrey since The Jam… in our eyes, anyway. And my mum’s.

How long have you been making music?

Individually, well over 10 years, but as a group we’re coming up to a year now. It’s not our first rodeos, though, so you’ve got nothing to worry about.

Why do you make music?

What’s better than music? Seriously? All the best feelings and emotions in the world get channelled through music. It’s the best bits of life. Even the worst feelings that we songwriters pour into songs get turned into something beautiful.

What are your biggest influences?

The classics — you know, The Rolling Stones, Oasis, Kasabian, The Stone Roses. Even some newer artists like Sam Fender, Foals and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

What would you say has been your best moment so far?

Our debut headline show in Woking. Wow — what a night. Sold out, under the lights, thanking the fans and all that… magic. That’s another reason why we do it.

How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?

Northern-sounding British rock music made by southerners. Melodic, stadium-worthy rock. Big choruses. Great guitar lines.

What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?

Glasto — main stage, headline. Or Wembley Stadium. Or even something like touring the States. That’s the dream.

We love your latest single ‘Voices’, what more can you tell us about it?

It’s a song about battling with the voice inside your head when you struggle to tell what’s real and what isn’t. The battle of right and wrong. It’s a bit deep, really.

What else do you have planned for the near future?

We’re back in the studio this December recording a couple of tracks in the build-up to our big headline show at the Water Rats in London for This Feeling. It’s on Saturday 7th March, so I strongly advise everyone to grab a ticket — it’s going to be one of the best shows of the year, and it’s only March, so we’ll be ticking that box nice and early doors.
