One on of our favourite debut releases we’ve heard in recent times, North London duo Shanakee have announced themselves with ‘This Town’, a tentative look at the world around at the towns that we grow up in and the dead end jobs that we work that feels resonating and powerful throughout, establishing their anthemic tendencies while showcasing that something that feels raw and real in the process.
The heart of the track lies in the familiar and sobering feeling of looking around and feeling that you’ve outgrown your surroundings, surrounded by nostalgia and everything that you’ve ever known but just feeling like it doesn’t quite fit you right anymore. The thoughtful nature of the writing and uplifting spirit of the soundscape make for a listening experience that truly resonates and leaves an impression on you, and we can’t wait to hear where the band go now and how they look to expand on this sound as they gear up to the release more tracks through 2026.
