The track comes ahead of the release of the artist’s upcoming debut album Halcyon Days
A track was initially written about a women trying to escape her small town life that eventually morphed into a woman trying to hold on to her lover as the summer ends, Alexandra Helgerson‘s ‘Laura’ is a great example of a release taking on a life of its own during its creation and letting the artist know what it is destined to be, and it makes for a captivating and immersive listening experience as a result.
The single was half-written in 2023, with the second half written in 2024 following the artist’s recovery from chemotherapy, surgery and radiation having being diagnosed with a kind of cancer called sarcoma, leading the artist to finish the track and come back to it with a fresh perspective that inspired this transformation. The end result is a release that has a deeply thoughtful softness to it, with a sense of longing and heartache to it that resonates in a really moving way throughout.
