We had a chat with Every Us about their groove-laden and thoughtful new single ‘B-Train’
Having already mad a stir with a string of initial releases that have established their thoughtful and nuanced appeal, Brooklyn-based indie-soul collective Every Us continue to showcase the charm and appeal of their immersive style with the release of their new single ‘B-Train’, an ode to the people we lean on and who support us through hardships.
More specifically, the track explores the fallout of a tough heartbreak, and the people around us and chosen family that carry us through these times and get us through to the other side. The gorgeously groove-laden nature of their sound and easygoing allure makes for a listening experience that is effortlessly easy to get voluntarily lost in, and we love it so much that we reached out for a chat with Easy Us to find out a bit more about the track and how it came together.
Hey! We love your new single ‘B-Train’, what more can you tell us about it?
“B-Train” was a fun soul groove that turned into a laidback anthem, shouting out the friends you keep going back to. We thought romantic love got too much credit when your crew is there with you through the chapters. We wanted those chorus shouts and background vocals to feel like warmth, yet the soft chaos of your chosen family
What was the process like putting it together?
The whole process was really an exercise in getting out of the way. I usually approach things as a producer first, so it was all about blending Chynna’s vocals with “lived-in” textures to make it feel authentic. We actually wanted it to sound exactly like cheap wine tastes: warm, unpolished, and just what you need in the moment. It took about six months to finish, and included some problem-solving after the stems got corrupted.
What were your biggest influences when creating it?
I’ve always loved Samm Henshaw and Chet Faker, so we wanted to find a more minimalist indie soul vibe while combining the Every Us sound and energy. We always want the music to saturate life around you; that’s the goal. We want people to get the feeling of shared joy through the song, so we leaned on other sampling to give it a unique texture while finding a modern pocket for more groove-style drums.
What are the best parts about creating and releasing music as part of a collective?
The best part is that it gives us an excuse to work together and explore stories beyond just one person’s voice. Every Us is all about capturing the feelings of every version of “us”—using group vocals and sampling “everyday” sounds to inject some soul back into modern production. It’s a project that’s constantly evolving with different musicians and artists, which keeps the sound fresh.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
Our full debut EP drops March 20th! Before that, we have another single called “Cavalry” coming out on February 6th. We’re also pinning down shows at Union Pool and Market Hotel for this spring, and we’re playing and recording three small shows in different NYC staples: a laundromat, a barber, and a Chinese restaurant around Brooklyn. We’ll also have a few videos of live recordings dropping. Can keep up with our socials for all the dates and announcements.
