Dan Devlin navigates the different stages of a breakup on his cathartic and soaring debut EP Scream

London-based singer, songwriter, producer, and DJ Dan Devlin is an artist who is quickly making a name for himself thanks to his acclaimed and distinctive alternative pop sound and the personality and charm that permeates his work. Drawing from a range of relatable themes and inspirations for his writing, his sounds leave a real impression on listeners both thanks to their catchy appeal and his engrossing, resonating edge.

The artist’s brand new three-track EP SCREAM is the the most realised and expansive showcase of his appeal to date, traversing through things like life and love through his immersive sound. The first track of the three is ‘Love Pill’, an emotionally charged breakup anthem that sees the artist looking for something to numb the pain and ease the way he feels after somebody has said goodbye. There is a really fun and expansive feel to the soundscape and its intricacies here, and the soaring, cathartic chorus feels instantly memorable and dynamic.

The script is flipped on the second track ‘Want Me Back’, a club-ready alternative pop banger that is packed full of cutting edge appeal and more of the artist’s relatable and captivating writing. This time around, the artist’s ex is the one doing the chasing and trying to rekindle things, prompting Dan to reflect over all the times that he got his heartbroken and all the times he was done dirty, making for a similarly cathartic and powerful track that listeners will again find so much to fall in love with and resonate with.

The resolution of the previous two tracks comes in the third and final part of the EP in the form of ‘Better Off’, a track that sees the artist finding closure following the dissolution of the relationship and deciding to move on and life his life. The three part structure of the EP and the way that the tracks both seamlessly slot together while all feeling strong enough to stand on their own makes for a really fun and multi-faceted listening experience.

SCREAM is a collection of tracks that has a really captivating narrative that weaves through it, making for an absorbing and thoroughly interesting journey through the end of a relationship and the different emotions and feelings that are being processed along the way. The track’s feel powerful, liberating and larger than life as Dan Devlin finds his place and navigates through the hardship that comes with things not working out how you wanted, and the sheer strength of the songwriting and the more impactful and bold moments makes sure to get you to relate to his feelings and feel invested in the adventure.
