Unwrapped: SCARLET – DYGA

We had a catch up with SCARLET to find out some more about her captivating and creepy new atmospheric single ‘DYGA’

Her fiercely creative and distinctive brand of alternative pop has quickly led us at CLOUT to growing infatuated with South East London artist SCARLET and the uncomfortable and intense feel of her atmospheric sound and visuals.

The artist’s new single and video ‘DYGA’ is an experience that continues to showcase everything that makes the artist feel so revered and exciting, melding ethereal vocals and emotional lyrics with an instrumental shrouded in darkness and intrigue, making for this brooding and relentlessly intense feeling package that captivates and holds your attention throughout its duration. We can’t get enough of this new release, and had a chat with SCARLET to pick it apart with her a bit more and find out about how it came to life.

Hey! We love your new single ‘DYGA’, what more can you tell us about it?

DYGA is the latest single of my upcoming EP, Glorified Daydreams. It is a song that delves into feelings of obsession, and longing. The music video was created by myself, my best mate Phoebe Dowling and many other amazing creative friends of ours which comes out on Halloween.

What was the process like putting it together?

I produced the song on a whim, just like most of my other songs I end up releasing. I tend to use production as a songwriting tool, seeing how far I can push the production on its own helps me see where the vocals and melody would naturally go. I then took the song to Courage, who added a few parts to the introduction to help achieve a sort of creepy atmospheric soundscape and the song was done.

What were your biggest influences when creating it?

I was listening to a lot of Deftones and Ethel Cain’s ‘Preachers Daughter’ at the time of making this song, so I guess them?

What should we expect from your upcoming new EP Glorified Daydreams as a whole?

Some crazy bangers and the most amazing visuals you ever did see…

I have one more single coming out next year, then the whole thing will come after that – the music and the music video film 🙂

What else do you have planned for the near future?

New Space, coming out February 2025…
