Unwrapped: THE HYBRIS – Celebrate The Good Times

We caught up with THE HYBRIS and found out some more about their scathing and emphatic new single ‘Celebrate The Good Times’

Thanks to their off-kilter style and appeal and hard-hitting, emphatic brand of alternative rock, multi-national outfit THE HYBRIS have been winning over admirers around the world for the creative and distinctive world that the trio and their tracks live in.

Wannabe comic superheroes Ringo Rabbit, Beanie Bison and Malcolm Mandrill (you can find out some more about their unique alter-egos here) are at their scathing best on new single ‘Celebrate The Good Times’, an ironic takedown of the ignorance of the privileged and powerful and the injustice that this so often causes. THE HYBRIS truly feel unlike anybody else around in modern music today, and with such a thoughtful and interesting new release, we figured we would have another chat with them and find out some more about the story behind it.

We love your new single ‘Celebrate The Good Times’, what more can you tell us about it?

It’s an uptempo track with some retro references, quite dark in style. In the song we play with a bit more electro elements for the first time. That’s something we want to explore and play around with a bit more in the future. To expand our sound, but without losing sight of our core.

What was the process like putting it together?

The process was very similar to other songs. The melody line and chord progression came first, so the vocal guide track and a first guitar were the starting point. Once we have an “anchor” that everyone feels comfortable with, we start building the whole song around it. Once the structure is in place, the drums usually start from the beginning and we record the final tracks.

The track has quite a scathing and ironic tone, where do these feelings come from?

The lyrics were created as a reaction to some unpleasant personal experiences in the recent past. It’s just incredibly annoying when people who have everything – and more than they really need – are still constantly concerned about their own advantage, without thinking of others. Without a sense of responsibility for what is happening around them, it’s never enough. That’s what led us to make this song.

How does this track fit in to the lore and overarching world that surrounds THE HYBRIS?

Besides the great fun of making and recording music, that was one of the main reasons to make THE HYBRIS: To have an outlet to address things you don’t like that are going wrong around you, in your country or in the world. Happy-clappy-this-is-why-I-love-you-Sunday-morning-with-you songs aren’t usually our thing.

What else do you have planned for the near future?

We continue to record songs and try to develop musically, in sound, in songwriting, in production. Ringo, Beanie and Malcolm need exercise 🙂 And in fall 2023 we will release our second album.
