We got to know emerging London artist Angel Murray following the release of her thoughtful new single ‘Credibility’
Having made a name for herself and emerged on the scene with her double A-side ‘Somewhere Else / Angels’ in July, rising London artist Angel Murray has continued to endear herself to audiences with the release of ‘Credibility’, a track that reaffirms her potential and talent and her ability to resonate with listeners thanks to her thought-provoking and intimate indie pop sound.
Having already raved about the new release, we sought to get in on the ground floor and find out some more about Angel Murray and her journey right as it seems to be getting off the ground, and had a chat with her about her style, her influences, and what else she has planned for the future.
Who TF is Angel Murray?
Angel Murray is a Singer/Songwriter from London who is in between the genres of Pop, Alternative Pop and Indie Pop. She made her big debut on the 19th of July 2024, with the double A-side single “Somewhere Else / Angels” which skyrocketed her to over 10,000 listeners in less than a month!
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been making music properly since April 2024 I’d say, that’s when I actually started to turn my writing into a reality, with the first sample that I sent to my producer. Although, I’ve been writing my actual songs since February.
Why do you make music?
I make music because for me it feels like such an escape, as someone who’s been so academically driven her whole life…getting into it and enjoying it so much was a relief, and I love music! So, to be able to make and write songs for other people to love feels like such an incredible blessing.
What are your biggest influences?
My influences vary across so many different genres, like genuinely, from the most commercial pop icons like Ariana Grande, to dark pop singers like Billie Eilish…to r&b artists like Kehlani and Frank Ocean, and many many more. I listen to it all, and I take inspiration from it all! There is no one biggest influence, I think just artists who are doing their thing and loving it; that’s what I aspire to do.
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
So far, my best moment has been having BBC Introducing London play my song “Angels” on their radio station! That was such an unreal moment for me, I remember it literally bringing me to tears as the song had only been out for less than two weeks and I got the email some time in the evening while I was winding down…so so insane. I love BBC Introducing though, they’re doing great things for emerging artists, I wish there were more platforms like it!
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
My sound is Pop with a darker twist, whilst having quite a familiar feel to it. Publications have most commonly compared it to artists like Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo & Fiona Apple. So, if that’s your vibe then you’ll love my music!
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
My dream “I’ve made it” moment would be to of course be performing at a sold-out show or shows where I’m headlining, with my amazing fans in a gorgeous venue! I really look forward to welcoming more and more supporters into my fandom, as it grows, I appreciate each and every one of them more. It’s a dream to have so many that I’m able to sell out a headline show, and just perform my songs to all of them, and interact with them, knowing that they appreciate and love my music the way I do, if not more.
We love your single ‘Credibility’, what more can you tell us about it?
Thank you, I’m glad you love it! Credibility touches on the feeling of almost splitting yourself in two mentally, with the reality and the expectations of setting goals or anything like that. I often would find myself dwelling on failures and not celebrating myself enough or giving myself enough credit where it’s due for the things I’d succeeded at or done well. I think that it should be much more normalised to celebrate the small wins, and even trying, because a lot of the time just trying can take a lot of effort…and if you don’t do something the first time or if you fail, it isn’t the end of the world – and you most certainly shouldn’t treat yourself as such. It’s a song that’s more of a mix of the tracks from my debut single “Somewhere Else” and “Angels”, taking a more upbeat path!
What else do you have planned for the near future?
I plan to keep recording music, much more music. Sometime in the near future there’ll also be a couple of collaborations officially in the works, which I’m super excited for! Working with other artists is something I’ve anticipated for a little while. That’s what I can speak on for now, but other than that I’m hoping the future holds more great things for me that I don’t even know yet.
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
My family are my biggest fans! And my little angels in the OGs group chat that I have.
