We had a chat with pop singer-songwriter Asmi Aderay following the release of her irresistible new single ‘I’m That Woman’
An Indian born, LA based singer-songwriter who’s emotionally charged and rousing pop sound borrows from a wide range of influences and styles, Asmi Aderay‘s unique appeal and the contrasting cultures that have informed it make for a truly one-of-a-kind listening experience that is packed full of fire, power, and emotional vulnerability.
The artist’s new single ‘I’m That Woman’ is a track that is packed full of empowering and fierce energy throughout, centred around the idea of knowing your value and what you bring to the table and being confident that you are worthy of the love that you’re receiving in a relationship. It makes for the kind of melodic and uplifting sound that listeners can cling to and find strength in, showcasing an unapologetic sense of self-assurance and emotional understanding that gives it a real layer of depth. The vibrant and upbeat nature of the sound does a great job of echoing the message, and we loved this release so much that we had a chat with the artist to find out a bit more about her, her journey, and what inspired her to write it.
Who TF is Asmi Aderay?
I’m a singer-songwriter who feels everything a little too deeply and turns it into songs. Soft soul, strong voice, and a lot of honesty. I’m originally from India, and my love for music transcended into the western scene since the age of 13, and has been a part of my artistry since.
How long have you been making music?
Been singing forever, but seriously writing and releasing for 3 years now. It’s gotten a lot more real lately.
Why do you make music?
It’s a release mechanism for me, but I want to build a community for my romantics, my deep feelers, let them know they are seen, heard, and that they aren’t alone.
What are your biggest influences?
A mix of powerhouse vocals and emotional storytelling – artists who make you feel something immediately. I’m drawn to drama, vulnerability, and a bit of edge, thereby artists like Adele, Miley Cyrus, Maroon 5, and Whitney Houston

What would you say has been your best moment so far?
Performing my originals live and seeing people actually connect to them. That moment where the room goes quiet, or bursts with energy with me, yes, that.
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
Alt pop/rock with emotional punch – cinematic but still raw. It’s soft and powerful at the same time.
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
Selling out a venue where people are screaming my lyrics back to me. Like they lived the song too.
We love your new single ‘I’m That Woman’, what more can you tell us about it?
It’s a bold, confident, feminine song about stepping into your power without apology. Not waiting to be chosen – you are the choice, and you’re here to share your love with the ones who deserve it.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
I’m working on finishing my EP, which “I’m that Woman” is a part of! But long term – more releases, more live shows, and building a real audience that sticks. Just showing up consistently.
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
My parents and mentors from Berklee, who have more faith in me than myself. My best friends from back home have been my support system for years, and I continue and go on for all of them 🙂
