We had a chat with Canadian brothers Beyond The Sun about their anthemic sound and future plans
Thanks to their affable and infectious alt-pop sound, Canadian brothers Phil, Dalton, and Colin Radu have built an ardent fanbase under the monicker Beyond The Sun. Just a glimpse at the back catalogue of the outfit makes it easy to see why, with memorable, anthemic sounds seeming to be second nature for the outfit.
A great example of this is the outfit’s new single ‘Rest Of My Days’. The track is blessed with thoughtful lyrics, effortlessly catchy melodies, and a seismic, soaring chorus that create an insatiable and undeniable of fun and adventure. There is an emotive feel to the vocals and the lyrics too that add a sense of intimacy that provides a really nice contrast with the intensity and fullness of the sound. The track is the latest sign of an outfit operating truly at the peak of their powers, and we had a chat with Beyond The Sun to find out some more about the men behind the music and what else they have planned.
Who TF are Beyond The Sun?
We’re 3 brothers from a small town outside Toronto Canada.
How long have you been making music?
Beyond The Sun has been making music since ’05. We were in a band before that so the three of us have been making music since 2003, almost 20 years now.
Why do you make music?
It may sound cliche but it’s not an option for us — it’s in us, and it has to come out. We have the most fun making music & always have, so being able to release it and have it resonate is a bonus. We’d still be making music even if it never left our laptops.
What are your biggest influences?
As humans; our parents, our family, our friends.
As musicians; Bruce Springsteen & Coldplay.
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
Headlining a radio festival in Puerto Rico and coming back the following year to play at their arena in San Juan.
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
Alternative pop rock
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
Honestly being able to not need any side hustles and provide for our families thru music is the only “I’ve made it moment” we chase. The size of shows, hit songs and all that come with it will be unbelievable but being able to live a life off of music is all we can ask for.
We love your latest single ‘Rest Of My Days’, what more can you tell us about it?
It’s one of the more personal songs we’ve released, it tells the story of our guitar player and his promise to be with his girlfriend for the rest of his days. We wrote it in Nashville with Nick Wheeler of The All-American Rejects and then had our friend Rob Laska of VALLEY assist with additional production.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
We have a new single coming out in August and shows are starting to book for the fall. We’re excited to finally be back out playing all the songs we’ve been releasing over the last two years.
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
She has held the crown our whole career, it’s our Grandma. We call her the band historian, she has always been our biggest fan. Even at 77 she still comes to shows and tells anyone and everyone who will listen about us.
