Who TF are Hotel Mira?

We had a chat with Hotel Mira about their journey as a band so far and their excellent new album Pity Party

For just over a decade now, the vibrant, ambitious soundscapes and thoughtful songwriting and charismatic allure of Hotel Mira has been something that has endeared them to fans and won them over a raft of admirers and fans, with frontman and songwriter Charlie Kerr, guitarist Clark Grieve, bassist Mike Noble and drummer Cole George honing a distinctive and captivating style that packs a deft punch.

If you’re somehow still uninitiated with the band and their work, then it is the perfect time to change that, with their brand new LP Pity Party showcasing a level of depth and introspection that is easy to find yourself immersed in, delving into the highs and lows of the excess and tolls of the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle. Following the release of such a landmark moment for the band, we had a little chat with Hotel Mira to find out a bit more about them and the inspiration behind the release.

Who TF are Hotel Mira?

The Man With The Golden Hands, The Pride Of Campbell River, The Bassist with the biceps and the Slutty Spaghetti noodle.

How long have you been making music?

We’re all lifers. Been doing it since we were kids.

What are your biggest influences?

We all have pretty different taste individually but we all are obsessed with The Beatles and Metallica.

What would you say has been your best moment so far?

Being able to sell out headlining shows is pretty rarified air. So that’s been amazing.

How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?

The Killers, if Brandon Flowers had BPD.

What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?

I just wanna make enough to get by and have all the people who wanna see us live get to have that opportunity.

We love your new album Pity Party, what more can you tell us about it?

Pity Party captures the genre and concept of the songs — the feeling of cycling between extreme joy, excitement and excess (party) and the impending depression, hangover and paranoia (pity). Being so caught up in the self-obsession of ends of this spectrum that you neglect to give yourself to anything of use

I think the goal was to make a record that kind of felt like 2014 tumblr. We wanted to make a big rock record. Take things back to basics after we made an emo/disco record back in 2023.

What else do you have planned for the near future?

Touring a lot. Trying to build our name absolutely everywhere they’ll have us. I think a lot of awesome headliner shows and writing and recording. Trying to take this thing to the next level.

And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?

We had a couple fans follow us around and saw multiple shows like the dead heads. Anybody who does that is definitely in the conversation for biggest Hotel Mira superfan.
