We had a chat with songwriter, viral artist and YouTuber Michael Hamilton about his unique journey and excellent new single ‘Love Me’
Michael Hamilton is somebody who seems to transcend the term artist, instead looking to create a movement through his sound and bridge the gap between music and digital culture in a way that feels fresh and dynamic. The UK afrobeat artist and YouTuber is somebody who has built a platform capable of carrying the weight of his lofty ambitions, and his range of singles showcase somebody ready to take things to the next level musically.
The artist’s new single ‘Love Me’ is a track that encapsulates his appeal, filled with vibrant, feel-good charm and the artist’s signature charismatic allure, continuing what he has to offer the UK urban scene and the heart and respect that goes into his work. Having already garnered support from UK scene stalwarts like including Beta Squad, Chunkz, Max Khadar, Harry Pinero, and GK Barry, Michael Hamilton continues to create a buzz, and we figured it would be the perfect time to dig a bit deeper into the man behind the music and out a bit more about him and his journey.
Who TF is Michael Hamilton?
I started off as a YouTuber, doing challenges and skits with my friends and eventually turned it into a career – but music was always calling my name from before any of that even happened!
How long have you been making music?
I can say professionally 5 years. By nature I’m a songwriter for some of all your favourite YouTubers. When you hear a song you like by one of them don’t forget to check those writing credits 😉 But started releasing a few of my own and it’s been great so far!
Why do you make music?
I used to go studio with my friend Chunkz years ago and I couldn’t sing, but I could write really well. He was unreal though, so it kind of pushed me to train my voice and I found the love for it shortly after. Apart from that I’m not much of a talker and it helps me express myself in a way that’s more comfortable to me.
What are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences are my friends. I grew up with a group of special individuals – Chunkz, Niko Omilana, Sharky, Kenny, AJ Shabeel, now commonly known as the Beta Squad but to this day they still inspire me. My friend Johnny Carey I hold just as high, he’s a real one – has always wanted to see my win in life.

What would you say has been your best moment so far?
My best moment so far was being able to take part in a series called Locked In. It’s essentially being locked inside a house for 14 days with no tech or contact with the outside world. Coming out of that has helped me boost my online presence and therefore helped my music.
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
Just a stimulated amount of afro melodies and stacked with harmonies lol. I talk about love in almost every song so if you’re going through something whether it’s good or bad I got a song for ya!
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
Hmm it’s tough, I don’t dream massively in the way I think I’m supposed to. Some people would say a festival or their own headline show. I think having an intimate show with all the people I know and love around me singing my lyrics back to me would be unreal. I havent experienced that yet. I also haven’t cried in many years so I think that’ll set me off lol
We love your new single ‘Love Me’, what more can you tell us about it?
I mean I had about 15 people in my house that night, it was 3am and I wanted to make music, it was meant to be a casual “mess around” type of song but I liked it so much I polished it up and released it!
What else do you have planned for the near future?
I wrote a song called ‘1 by 1’ last year, it took off! I had the most fun recording the music video with my friends it really brought back the excitement in it. So I definitely wanna do a sequel to it, different song but same vibe.
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
My biggest fan I’d say is my sister Ashley. The moment I post something she’ll share it seconds later. Tells all her friends and work colleagues about me. Definitely makes me a proud lil bro.
