We had a chat with emerging UK alternative rock outfit Picture The Scene following the release of their emphatic new single ‘Goodbye’
Emerging UK alternative rock outfit Picture The Scene have been establishing themselves over the last few years thanks to a steady stream of impactful, energy-filled releases that showcase their penchant for crafting relentless, melodic sounds.
The clearest example to date of the creative vision of the outfit is the new single ‘Goodbye’, a colossal track that has the outfit feeling more huge and exciting than ever. From its crushing instrumentation to its noticably more polished production, to the gruff rawness of Lewis Speirs’ emphatic vocal delivery, ‘Goodbye’ is a statement of intent from the outfit, and a sign of a more potent and engaging output going forward. This is an exciting time for Picture The Scene, who seem to have really found their sound, and look set to enter their most prolific run of form to date, and we felt that this would be the perfect time to find out a bit more about them and what they have planned.
Who TF are Picture The Scene?
Picture The Scene started off as a project in my bedroom during the first lockdown to stop me from going insane, but now I’m lucky enough to call it a band. I make loud songs with big guitars that’ll make your Dad weak at the knees… or so I’m told.
How long have you been making music?
For as long as I can remember really, my old man got me a drum kit we found in a barn when I was 8 years old and I’ve not looked back since.
Why do you make music?
Why does a politician lie? Because I have to : )
What are your biggest influences?
Growing up Dave Grohl was number one on the list (and if I’m honest probably still is) but recently bands like Biffy Clyro, Idles and Wet Leg have been big inspos.
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
We’ve just finished our first UK tour that I booked myself, we sold out three dates and the last night was a sold out Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh, that was mad.
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
It’s like the Foo Fighters and Supergrass conceived a child in secret.
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
When somebody walks up and tells me our music is the reason they started a band.
We love your new single ‘Goodbye’, what more can you tell us about it?
It’s my favourite track to date, definitely the biggest, and it’s our happiest one too. I suppose it’s about understanding that change is a part of life and that no matter what, we have to remind ourselves to love ourselves and each other in spite of it all *cue cringe-induced vomiting*
What else do you have planned for the near future?
So much! Hopefully another 4 singles this year, as well as 3 more tours and a couple of big support slots, it’s going to be fun!
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
It’s a tie! Shout out to Liam and Jordan, two wonderful chaps that we’ve met recently who made me believe this whole musician thing might work out after all.
