We had a chat with Sophia Mengrosso about her creative take on operatic alternative metal and the woman behind the music
A creative force and fiercely exciting modern artist who has an alternative rock sound with an exciting operatic twist, Sophia Mengrosso is somebody who has continuously established herself as an artist who’s hard-hitting and ambitious sound is worth of the biggest stages and the brightest spotlights.
The latest showcase of her appeal lies in her new single ‘Lust’, a track that takes an unflinching and personal dive into the danger and volatility of passionate relationships, with the thin line between love and war growing increasingly blurred and making for high stakes that are perfectly encapsulated through the soundscape. There is an intoxicating appeal to the sound and the artist’s vocal delivery that we can’t get enough of, and we had a chat with Sophia to find out a bit more about the birth of her unique style and her journey and future plans as an artist.
Who TF is Sophia Mengrosso?
Sophia Mengrosso is a singer/songwriter. She was trained as a classical singer at an early age and transitioned to rock and metal music after being influenced by bands like Metallica, Evanescence, Nightwish, and other heavy metal and rock bands.
How long have you been making music?
I have been writing music since the age of 15, this is when I wrote drafts of some of the songs from my “unforgiven” album. The best part of my journey is to be able to create music!
Why do you make music?
Making music to me is important on so many levels. I can’t imagine doing anything else. It gives me freedom to tell the story and heal, help others to heal and inspire people to create. Whatever that you do in life just be a creator of it. Music is like medicine to me, I think I can heal anything with music.
What are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences from rock music are Metallica and Evanescence! They were the first bands I fell in love with. I love the sound of those bands, and the lyrics of their songs.
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
My first album release! Writing it, polishing, and putting everything together! It was a huge relief too, to just put it out in the worlds, it is like my baby :))
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
I would call rock with operatic vocals, heavy instruments, ethereal sounds.
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
A collaboration with my inspirational bands!
We love your new single ‘Lust’, what more can you tell us about it?
‘Lust’ is a very brave move for me. I am sharing my personal experience with addictive toxic love. It is not good or bad. It is like a vampiric obsession. You know it is dangerous but you just dive in head first without fear. Dark energy calling your soul. It is the moment you just follow your instincts and not common sense.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
Releasing my second album this year and touring!
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
All ages! It makes me so happy that my music can make a difference for souls of all ages!
