We had a chat with collaborators Lois Powell and Night Wolf about their crossing paths and their fourth single as a duo ‘The Laws of Life’
The latest in a string of releases that the artists have come together to release as collaborative efforts, Night Wolf and Lois Powell‘s new single ‘The Laws of Life’ is another dreamy showcase of the chemistry that the artist’s share and the deft and all-encompassing appeal of the distinctive sounds that they create.
The track has a really reflective and thoughtful feel to it narratively, exploring themes like giving yourself retrospective advice and taking a look back on decisions and choices you’ve made through a captivating and subtly haunting lens. The track builds in a really cathartic way and is packed full of interesting moments, and we had a chat with both of the artists to find out a bit more about their journeys, their collaborations, and how the track came together.
How long have you been making music?
L.P: I have been writing songs since I was 13, so 8 years.
N.W: Together as a duo we only started to work together 1 or 2 years ago. But just me making music has been ongoing since I was a child, I had my first drum kit at 3, and then went to percussion groups where I could bang things, then briefly to a Scottish marching band on snare. I then started piano lessons and when in school I was always making friends with guitarists and we would just jam all day, this lead to several bands including Hed Shot in Luton. I wrote a lot of songs and would play the piano at home as we were lucky enough to have an upright. When I was in my teens I got a Roland Fantom X6 workstation on credit from a music store and 1 huge PA speaker! I had no idea what I was doing but learnt how to use that beast in every way possible and would produce full songs on it without the need of a computer. I only started to properly produce music using a DAW around 2010 onwards. Here we are today! Still writing songs, still making music and still pushing to make better music!
Why do you make music?
L.P: Because it feels good, and is cathartic sometimes.
N.W: I enjoy being able to disappear into another world and feel my way into making a new song, I honestly do not run out of ideas and if I did not get them out, I would have even more problems in my life then I already do! I love the art of music and how a song can mean so many different things for individuals. It is a way to truly express yourself and not hold back, I tend to make music that reflects how I feel at that time so for me its like therapy. I have had many fads in my life, music is maybe one of the only ones that turned out to not be!
What are your biggest influences?
L.P: My mum listened to Peter, Paul and Mary a lot when I was a child so I think that sound seeped into me a bit
N.W: My parents also had a huge impact on my appreciation for many if not most of all genres. Music wise I have many artists I would say have had a significant role in my self studies into music and finding music I myself enjoy to listen too but there is a LOT so I will not go into details, but I have a love for most genres and would say they have all been influences from Hip Hop to Grime, Classical to Rock, Pop to Downtempo stuff, I would say my own playlist is certainly more leaning towards darker more so depressing side of the scale, I do not listen to much “happy” music so to say! Depression makes better art and all that!

What would you say has been your best moment so far?
L.P: One time I was busking and a little girl came up and started strumming the guitar. I kept holding down the chords and singing as she played. It was a very sweet moment and her parents loved it.
N.W: I would say my best moment is yet to come , I have a few things left to achieve on my bucket list. But I am very happy with what I have accomplished so far in the world of music, I have had my music placed and used for major company’s and networks around the world including: NFL, MLB, El Club (Netflix), Hollyoaks, Paralympics, Red Cross and many more. I also created the music for the film trailer for The Essex Boys Retribution with both pieces of music being produced by me and one co written with Centrist. I have also officially remixed artists such as Mark Morrison and LEAH.
I feel like I am currently maybe in my best moment right now, I have taken control of my own music after 9 albums of not having a say, I am coming out of my shell (forcefully but welcome) on social media a little more and have just launched my own record label and platform to be able to release music with people I collaborate with as well as my own music called EscaVolt Records and I am in the process of setting up a sound effect company that will be selling packs of unique sounds for use.
Me and Lois were also selected as featured artists for this song The Laws Of Life on BBC Introducing very recently and had an interview with them that was cool.
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
L.P: Ethereal, haunting, deep, unique, authentic, thought provoking
N.W: Ummm, Trip Hoppy – Cinematicly – Poppie – Downtempoe – Electronicish – Experimentally some times Minimal pile of sound! Music that can be enjoyed outside of background music but stuff that works well in visual media type stuff, so background music? Yer I do not know.. I don’t know why everything has to be a specific genre anyhow, there are too many bloody sub genres and its hard to pigeon hole myself to one as I jump around. But I have been told I have a unique touch or kind of trademark in sound when I create stuff, if that helps at all in this.
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
L.P: Being in a random place and hearing myself
N.W: To be able to get dressed up and go to a private screening of a fantastic film that I have either scored the music for or that I had a hand in sound design with or sound effects. I am working currently on gaining placements for our songs together and we keep getting told that all 4 of our songs would work so well in a James Bond movie so this is what I am trying to push for or something along those lines. If you are reading this and are looking for either bespoke music or already created music for your projects then please check out my website I put together where you can lease certain music , contact me directly for project quotes and I am even given away a small selection of my older music for free, visit www.nightwolfuk.com to browse my current music and back catalogue which is also available for use with Flipper Music.
We love your new single ‘The Laws of Life’, what more can you tell us about it?
L.P: It was written during a very emotionally intense period of my life. As a way to lock in all those ideas and truths I believed I had uncovered. A kind of time capsule of emotion and thought.
N.W: Thank you! This was another song where we came together not really knowing what was going to come out and just went with the flow and everything just fit into place, we produced most of the song in a day and laid down the vocals in a session. We tend to do multiple takes of Lois singing and then she leaves and I then put things together. I think as this was our fourth collaboration with out other songs, Death Of The Wolf and Lost My Way Home both had me writing lyrics , Unstoppable and The Laws Of Life are all Lois and is her being allowed to dictate more how the song will flow.
I love Lois’s voice over what I enjoy to make and I think that our partnership in music is one to watch as we have certainly got so much more to give.
What else do you have planned for the near future?
L.P: I have an EP coming out soon that was produced by a musical charity that support people with disabilities called Musical Keys. I hope to promote what they do as I believe it’s very helpful for the community.
N.W: Busy Busy Busy! I am as stated before mid process of trying to set up a sound effect company , due to my mental health and back problems getting worse it has taken a while to get some stuff pushed forward but I am doing as much as I can now to continue pushing forward and get the first packs complete. I am also now in a very creative space and am trying to learn many things to be able to progress my career so a lot of self studying going on. We are also gearing up to film a music video shortly for our first song between me and Lois , Lost My Way Home which we hope to be able to bring our vision of our songs to life. I also have new music that will be released this year and have another release on the 26th April 2026 with The Fods + Night Wolf – Kickback which again is released on EscaVolt Records. Keep your eyes peeled for our music video and follow us on socials to see what we are up too, please! If you like the music we want to hear from you 🙂 @NightWolfUK + @LoisPowellMusic
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
L.P: My mother always my biggest fan. Supporting me in every way.
N.W: I would of answered the same but sadly my biggest fan is no longer here, otherwise my sister is always supporting me as I do with her or try too with her business so thanks Becky for supporting me and my music and also Mister Biscuits on Instagram for sharing everything we do and making those James Bond mock intro videos with our music. Also to those that have supported me from day one that continue to do so when I post about it.
I would like to find our people out there in the world and start interacting more on social media, but at the same time I don’t want to make people sick and tired of seeing me at the same time, but I hope that I will find some new supporters of our music during this time and ride with me on a new self learning journey on being a truly independent artist.
