We found out a bit more about Xeven and her unpredictable journey following the release of her dynamic new single ‘Roller Coaster’
Her atmospheric allure and the expansive nature of her sound have made electro-pop artist Xeven into an exciting force in modern music over the last four years, amassing a collection of tracks that show off the nuance, charm and composure of the artist while always having an engrossing, melodic edge and creative appeal.
The artist’s latest single ‘Roller Coaster’ is a great showcase of the artist’s multi-faceted appeal, employing a dynamic and energetic electronic soundscape to explore the ups and downs of life in slick, Xeven fashion. These transformative experiences are what helped form a track that celebrates how truly unpredictable life can be and the twists and turns that come along the way, and had a chat with Xeven to find out a bit more about her backstory as an artist and what has shaped her to become the force that the is today.
Who TF is Xeven?
My sister says I’m your typical nerd producer boi sitting in his mom’s basement. My name’s urban dictionary definition is a well-hung funny dude who raps well. Except I’m very much a (now also pregnant) woman, I love singing as much as rapping and I’ve lived long enough to move out of my mom’s basement (she never had one to begin with). I make what I like and I like what I like – sometimes it’s sad, sometimes it’s dark, but it’s always atmospheric and sexy 🙂
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been making music since 2020. I’ve always loved to sing and write, and attempted working with other producers but it didn’t quite work out for different reasons. Learning how to produce was the silver lining of my pandemic lockdown, I love that I can just make exactly what I “hear”.
Why do you make music?
Are you serious? Because I really, really, really LOVE music. I was a dancer before I was a musical artist and I’m convinced music is magic. Science even says it has healing properties. Listening to it allows me to work through the whole human spectrum of emotions, and it is so empowering! Making it is always a really exciting experiment because I don’t really ever set out to work in a specific genre, it’s always the feeling leading the way and I love nothing more than being creative.
What are your biggest influences?
My biggest influence is my life and what’s going on it it. But if you mean other acts: oldies but goodies are Portishead and Massive Attack, I love Depeche Mode and Kosheen. Some newer influences would be SOHN, Ben Khan, SG Lewis, BANKS, Sub Urban, Kenya Grace. There are so many I draw inspiration from.
What would you say has been your best moment so far?
Well, I’m always super proud when not only is my next track better than the one before, but I also love producing beautiful music videos. When I see it all come together, I’m just super proud of myself, you know? I usually script, produce, direct and post-produce most of my videos. I have 9 of them so far and they’re pretty dope: Watch Xeven’s Music Videos Here
How would you describe your sound to somebody unfamiliar with it?
I’d call it Dark ElectroPop slash IDM, it’s music you’d play on a late night at a fancy loft. Some of it, for example Moved On and Turn The Lights Down Low are very much suited for a bedroom playlist 😉
What’s your dream “I’ve made it” moment?
Honestly, I would say “play at Madison square garden in NYC” or something like that, but all I hope for is for people to listen and find refuge/comfort in my music. Let it heal them. So even though I’m not a world-touring artist, I’ve already had people tell me they find my music introspective and healing. So technically I’ve made it already :)))
We love your new single ‘Roller Coaster’, what more can you tell us about it?
Roller Coaster was a track I initially wrote about receiving my green card way ahead of time in August 2023, but then I had to go through spinal surgery in November that year, and then found out I was pregnant after surgery. So the track became more relevant as it sat in my archives. Life is mad. Ups and downs all the way – who needs peace when you’ve got chaos!
What else do you have planned for the near future?
I’m currently sticking to just releasing singles, as July I’m about to become a mother. But I have a release planned every 6 weeks. Next up is a single called “Deja Vu”, so keep an eye out 🙂
And finally, who is your biggest fan right now?
My mom, duh! Jk, I don’t know but I have a few super listeners and I’m grateful for them all.
