The track continues the artist’s recent fun of form.
On her new single ‘The Other Side of Me’, London based singer-songwriter Anna Bea borrows from pop sounds of the 90s and 2000s to create a more modern take on the iconic sounds that dominated the time period, making for a release that feels warmly familiar in its tone and style.
The track explores the theme of having to tap into your true self and wearing your heart on your sleeve in order to put yourself out there and perhaps get what you want. This rousing message is matched by the tone of the track, with the 2000s aesthetic making for a lush foundation that the artist’s engaging, emotive vocals do a great job of soaring over. This is a track about being done with people pleasing or hiding who you are, and although there are some moments of darkness along the way, the overarching message is ultimately a rousing one that encourages listeners to unapologetically be themselves.
“‘The Other Side of Me’ is about hiding part of yourself to please someone and never letting the other side of you show” explains Anna. “The moral of the song is to get angry and get out when you’re in a toxic relationship, instead of being passive and people-pleasing.”
The rousing song is accompanied by a split-screen music video which follows the same theme. “The music video was inspired by the ‘expectations vs. reality’ scene from the movie ‘500 days of Summer’” says Anna. “It shows how two different scenarios play out when you let your true feelings show, as opposed to bottling them up.”
