The track continues to highlight the artist’s vibrant and forward-thinking appeal
Armed with a dynamic, cutting edge electro-pop sound that is packed full of immersive and exciting moments and her killer, charismatic appeal, New Zealand’s ASHY is somebody who demands you sit up and take notice when you hear her sounds, and her latest single ‘Ottoman’ is just the latest showcase of her exciting appeal.
The track explores a feeling that the artist has often had in life where she feels that she has been underestimated, always having to prove herself or go above and beyond to prove people wrong and gain their recognition. The empowering and impactful nature of the sound does a really great job of pushing back against these barriers and serving as a statement, both through her lyrics and the expansive and ambitious nature of the sound.
“Ottoman focuses on challenges I’ve had in the music industry and in life in general when I’ve been underestimated.” ASHY says. “The main lyrics in the pre chorus ‘all too often I’m at a loss I’m 10 steps behind at the start, on the Ottoman out of oxygen while you’re walking I’m running’ actually directly speaks on how I’ve felt being an Indian woman in the commercial industry and that I have had to work 10 times harder to be recognised on the same level as some of my peers. This also has happened many times in my normal life, having to prove that I belong and should be treated the same as others when I first meet someone.”
