On her brand new single ‘Laugh Track’, Ava Valianti utilises the sharp and thoughtful feel of her sound to explore the feeling of always having to put on some kind of performance and charade constantly in your life, like she is in some kind of Truman Show-esque scenario where her every move and flaw is being studied and observed.

Its charming relatable edge and her ever-captivating and charismatic presence provide the single with the kind of dynamic and cutting feel that has often characterised her work, handling feelings of isolation and self-doubt with the kind of dark humour and charm that hides the more vulnerable and sombre edge to the narrative. There is an honesty and a rawness to the track that feels really powerful and striking despite these attempts to mask it with humour or parallels with Ted Moseby, and it makes for some really cathartic moments that leave a resonating effect on you as a listener.

“I wrote Laugh Track as a way to process the feeling of always being ‘on’ – like I’m performing even when no one’s watching. ” Ava says of the track. “I’ve always had this weird sense that my life is being observed, like I’m in some kind of TV show where my mistakes are the punchline. This song is me stepping back and asking, ‘Am I in control of my own story, or am I just playing a part?’
