The track is the latest release from the artist’s upcoming new EP Wish It Was You
The intimate and stirring nature of her heartfelt indie-folk sound is something that has earned UK singer-songwriter Bea Stewart a reputation as a resonating talent who crafts these immersive and poignant worlds through her releases, and the artist’s engrossing latest single ‘Set On Loving You’ is just the latest showcase of her moving appeal.
The track explores the all too familiar feeling of clinging to a relationship and refusing to let go even if things aren’t quite working out, and things aren’t working out to be too healthy for you. It is a contradiction of a situation and one where we allow ourselves to be delusional and convince ourselves that things aren’t what they obviously are, and the soft and alluring way that the artist addresses her feelings and the enchanting way that the sound unfolds makes for a listening experience that leaves a lingering mark on you, much like the aforementioned relationships do.
Speaking about “Set On Loving You”, Bea explains:
“It’s a stubborn love song I started writing a few years ago when I was in the thick of a relationship that was quite unhealthy, but I was so in love with this person I really wanted them to be it for me, healthy or not. This song is where the title of the EP, ‘Wish It Was You,’ comes from, and it really sums up the desperation I felt. The song has developed (as I have come out of that relationship) to be the version you hear today, while still honouring the way I felt at the time. I think it’s important to address that while this song is an honest reflection of this time in my life, I don’t want it to be confused or romanticised as healthy. Feelings are complicated when you’re in love, but I have since learnt that if something is repeatedly hurting you, it doesn’t matter if it patches you up after — it’s not good for you and you deserve more.”
