The track does a great job of establishing his nuanced and immersive style
Celebrated as a prodigious Australian wunderkind, rising artist Ben Swissa is somebody who boasts a sound and style that far belies his years and is packed full of the kind of composure and grace that you would expect from somebody double his age, packed full of immersive, soulful moments and poignant artistry.
The artist’s first official single comes in the form of ‘Angel’, a gorgeously textured neo-soul anthem that immediately showcases his kaleidoscopic approach and the sheer depth and expansive nature of his appeal. Everything here from the lo-fi presentation of the instrumentation to the soulful tone of his vocals feels perfectly poised here and effortlessly smooth and easy to listen to, painting an immersive and vivid image of a toxic and turbulent relationship that sharply juxtaposes the serene nature of the sound.
“Creating ‘Angel’ was about diving into the complex feelings of loving someone toxic, someone you can’t live without.” The 18-year-old artist says of the track. “The video is meant to capture the loneliness and desperation, pointing out the vulnerability in such relationships. I used symbolic visuals to represent the ups and downs, showing that even in the heartbreak, there’s still a touch of color and pleasure. It’s a raw and real look at the bittersweet mix of love and toxicity, and I hope it connects with people on a personal level.”
