High up on a litany of ones-to-watch lists, Newcastle band Cat Ryan have been lighting up the UK music scene over the last few years with their immersive brand of shoegazy, melodic art-rock, winning over the plaudits of tastemakers and music fans for their distinctive approach to their sound.

Their latest single ‘Lost My Connection’ has seen the outfit continue to garner similar levels of reverence and acclaim, earning the band a much deserved debut spot on BBC Radio 1. The track articulates all of the things that appeal about Cat Ryan and their sound, the unique blend of the artistic and creative that doesn’t manage to diminish their familiar, accessible edge, and the personable earnesty and honesty that makes them feel so endearing and relatable to listeners. Cat Ryan have managed to carve a sound that feels so intrinsic to themselves and their own style but that radiates such a warm, universal appeal. A one of a kind force that continue to rise in acclaim and smash through barriers and milestones.

Mary-Anne (singer, writer & multi-instrumentalist) explains: “‘Lost My Connection’ details the breakdown of a relationship that is unable to overcome the challenges of long distance. The lyrics are taken from the point of view of an individual struggling to find an explanation for their failing relationship and relates to feeling hopeless as they continuously draw closer to giving up completely. The song expresses a universal experience of communication which remains particularly prevalent in a time where many relationships in the modern world are mediated online. Whilst this appears to close the gap of geographical distance, it equally gives way to new challenges and miscommunications. The sad undertones of this breakup story are masked by the uplifting melodies in the music, perhaps reflecting the desires of the individual to make light of the situation or carry hope for a happier future.”.
